BSA Harrington Cancer Center Commemorates Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

September 27, 2022

AMARILLO, TEXAS (September 22, 2022) – In honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, BSA Harrington Cancer Center hosted a community event to raise awareness of childhood cancers and local treatment options.

“There are more than 15,000 new childhood cancer diagnoses worldwide each year,” said Dr. Jeffery Hanrahan, BSA Harrington Cancer Center Pediatric Hematologist and Oncologist. “It’s important for children to be treated locally. Being able to provide chemotherapy and other cancer-related treatments here in Amarillo is beneficial for children, their families and our community as a whole.”

During the event, attendees enjoyed facility tours of BSA Harrington Cancer Center and visited sponsored booths supplying festivities for all ages, including face painting and free books for children. Sponsors and exhibitors included Harrington Cancer and Health Foundation Circle of Friends, Storybridge, MTK Foundation, Little Bees Playhouse, Camp Alphie, Ronald McDonald House, Children’s Miracle Network and Panhandle Angels.

“We are grateful to our community members for attending this event and helping raise awareness of childhood cancer and treatment options in the Texas Panhandle,” said BSA Harrington Cancer Center Director Curtis Reneau. “Our team of pediatric oncology experts is committed to providing unmatched care for children and families impacted by a cancer diagnosis.”
