BSA Celebrates Mother Heading into C-Section

June 29, 2018

After spending eight weeks in the BSA Labor and Delivery Department, Tracy May was more than ready to give birth to her twin girls.

The mother of two (now four) had spent eight weeks in the BSA Labor and Delivery Department, due to her monoamniotic pregnancy. Monoamniotic twins are identical twins that share an amniotic sac and placenta but have separate umbilical cords. Monoamniotic twins are rare and occur in approximately 1 in 35,000 to 1 in 60,000 pregnancies. There are many risks associated with this type of pregnancy, requiring constant fetal monitoring.

After spending sixty days at BSA, Tracy was ready to deliver her two baby girls and was scheduled for a C-section.

Staff at BSA wanted to make her day even more special than it already was by creating a celebratory “send-off” for Tracy. BSA Labor and Delivery staff surprised Tracy with decorations in the hallway and on the operating room doors.

“The decorations got me pumped up for the C-section,” said Tracy. “They even made a balloon arch in the hallway for me! All of the nurses were so excited which relieved my nerves and got me excited. Seeing them do all of this for us was awesome.”

Tracy admits she was nervous for her first C-section, but was appreciative of her labor and delivery team.

“It wasn’t nearly as stressful as I thought it might be. All of the nurses and doctors were great and they all kept me very informed during the delivery,” explained Tracy. “It was a great experience for me.”

Tracy and her husband Blaze welcomed two baby girls, Nyla and Phoebe, named after their paternal grandmothers. Tracy and Blaze also have a daughter and son at home. Tracy says what she is looking forward to the most about going home is being able to be around her kids every day.

Tracy believes that BSA was the right place for her to be during this pregnancy. “This was a stressful pregnancy for me. We could have easily lost one of the babies but being at BSA was such a huge relief,” shared Tracy. “Everyone at BSA has been so nice to us and really made us feel like we were in the right place.”

Congratulations to Tracy and Blaze on the arrival of their beautiful twins, Nyla and Phoebe!
