60 Second Sleep Tip – Sleeping in the Heat of Summer

July 22, 2021

During the heat of summer, achieving restful sleep can be a challenge. Jeannie Pruitt, Manager of BSA Sleep Disorders Center, is sharing tips to help you achieve optimal sleep during the summer. To sleep well during warmer months, Jeannie suggests the following:

  • Use cotton sheets, as they provide better ventilation than other materials
  • Take a cold shower or bath at night to decrease your core body temperature
  • Drink a tall glass of water at night to help you cool down
  • Eat light meals consisting of vegetables and fruits
  • Avoid alcoholic beverages which can increase your body temperature and fragment your sleep

If you are having trouble falling or staying asleep, the BSA Sleep Disorders Center team can help! For more information about our sleep services and studies, visit bsahs.org/sleep.
