Sleeve gastrectomy is performed by removing approximately 80% of the stomach. The remaining stomach is a tubular pouch that resembles a banana. The pouch holds a considerably smaller volume than the normal stomach and helps to significantly reduce the amount of food that is consumed.

Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch is a procedure with two components. First, a smaller tubular stomach pouch is created by removing a portion of the stomach in a process very similar to the sleeve gastrectomy. Next a large portion of the small intestine is bypassed.
Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch Gastric Bypass:
Gastric bypass surgery creates a bypass for food to travel by first creating a small pouch in the stomach and connecting it to a small part of the small intestine. This reduces caloric and nutrient intake.

After surgery you will be given a detailed care plan with specific instructions from your physician, including dietary intake, meal plans, homecare, exercise and schedule of recommended follow up appointments. It is important to maintain long-term follow up appointments with your bariatric provider.
During recovery and as your weight loss journey continues, join us for our free weight loss support groups held on the third Monday of every month. Support groups are open to patients who have had surgery or are considering weight loss surgery.
