Awards and Recognition

Through the years, BSA has received many awards. Each honor is a reflection of the excellent work performed by BSA employees every day as they work to fulfill the mission – to provide quality healthcare in Christian love, service and dignity.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) rated BSA with four stars for patient experience in 2021. BSA is one of only 84 hospitals in Texas to receive four stars. The overall rating summarizes up to 57 quality measures on Hospital Compare reflecting common conditions that hospitals treat, such as heart attacks or pneumonia.


BSA Health System’s acute care and ambulatory facilities earned the 2021 CHIME Digital Health Most Wired recognition as a certified level 8 out of 10. The CHIME Digital Health Most Wired program conducts an annual survey to assess how effectively healthcare organizations apply core and advanced technologies into their clinical and business programs to improve health and care in their communities.


For 2023, BSA Health System and BSA Joint Ventures were chosen as Amarillo’s top choice in 10 Best of Amarillo categories.

Amarillo Globe News Readers’ Choice Award are the results of an annual survey distributed by Amarillo Magazine, asking readers to vote for their favorite local products, services and attractions geared toward kids and their families.

BSA received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award for 2022. Facilities that receive this prestigious recognition are top-performers in stroke care and prevention. To qualify for this award, BSA met specific guidelines including the use of proper medications and treatment plans, providing patients with materials to promote health management after discharge and scheduling follow-up visits or any needed transitional care interventions.


Twelve BSA physicians were named as Amarillo’s Top Docs in 2020 and fourteen BSA physicians were named Amarillo’s Top Docs in 2019. All Top Docs were chosen based on peer votes by local licensed physicians.

Designations and Accreditations

BSA Health System currently holds the following accreditations:

The ACR Comprehensive Breast Imaging Center designation is a voluntary program recognizing facilities that have committed to practice safe, effective diagnostic care for individuals at the highest risk for lung cancer. Facilities must undergo a rigorous assessment of their lung cancer screening protocol and infrastructure, as well as have procedures in place for follow-up patient care, such as counseling and smoking cessation programs. 


For the fifth consecutive year, BSA Health System (BSA) has received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Gold Plus quality achievement award for its commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines, ultimately leading to more lives saved and reduced disability. BSA also received the American Heart Association’s Target: Stroke Honor Roll award. To qualify for this recognition, hospitals must meet specific criteria that reduce the time between an eligible patient’s arrival and treatment with the clot-buster medication known as a ‘thrombolytic’.  


BSA Hospital LLC has been named a Blue Distinction Center+ for cardiac, maternity and bariatric care. Facilities designated as a Blue Distinction Center+ are nationally designated healthcare facilities shown to deliver improved patient safety and better health outcomes based on objective measures that were developed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield Companies with input from the medical community.


BSA is an accredited Chest Pain Center by the American College of Cardiology for the ability to assess, diagnose and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack.


BSA is a Certified Primary Plus Stroke Center by the Det Norske Veritas Healthcare Group (DNV GL). This certification affirms BSA’s readiness to provide for stroke-related medical problems with a high level of expertise and a full spectrum of care including diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and education. BSA is regularly inspected to assure that we provide quality services in a safe environment. DNV Healthcare is a Medicare-approved hospital accreditation program which evaluates patient care throughout the entire healthcare system. The DNV program is consistent with BSA’s commitment to patient safety and total quality. The DNV program is very thorough, and it helps us find opportunities to improve throughout the organization.


The BSA Laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP). The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program helps laboratories achieve the highest standards of excellence to positively impact patient care.


BSA is accredited as a Comprehensive Bariatric Center under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), a joint program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).


BSA Harrington Cancer Center is a QOPI® Certified Practice. Certification by the QOPI Certification Program is an acknowledgement that Harrington’s hematology and oncology practices meet the highest standards for quality and safety.


BSA Harrington Cancer Center is accredited by the Commission on Cancer. This accreditation represents the commitment by BSA Harrington Cancer Center to provide the highest quality cancer care possible.


The Radiation Oncology Services of BSA Harrington Cancer Center have been surveyed and accredited by the American College of Radiology and the American Society for Radiation Oncology.


BSA Harrington Breast Center is accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons.


The BSA Post Graduate Year One (PGY-1) Pharmacy Residency Program is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).

BSA Harrington Cancer Services is focused on achieving increasingly higher standards of clinical excellence, improving outcomes and enhancing care. Our efforts are demonstrated through regular inspections and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

BSA Harrington Breast Center is a designated Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. The American College of Radiology determined that BSA Harrington Breast Center achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.
