As the only hospital in the region with 24/7/365 thrombectomy coverage, patients like Steve Courts can depend on BSA for award-winning care.
A few months ago, Steve was home eating breakfast and suddenly lost all feeling on the left side of his body. Recognizing the symptoms of a stroke, Steve’s wife quickly drove him to the BSA Emergency Room. A CT scan revealed a blood clot in Steve’s brain. Within 20 minutes, Interventional Radiologist Nilay Mehta, M.D. had Steve in the operating room. “Through all this, I made peace with God because I thought this was it,” recalled Steve.
Before removing the blood clot, Dr. Mehta reassured Steve: “I want you to look at me, focus and look in my eyes. Coming around the corner, I looked at your CT scan again. I know exactly where it’s at, and I’m going to get it.”
When Steve awoke from the procedure, he could immediately move the left side of his body. By the next morning, Dr. Mehta greeted Steve, who was sitting in his chair eating breakfast. Due to the fast action of his wife, Dr. Mehta and the BSA team, Steve was able to fully recover in no time!
