The BSA Care Fair will take place on Saturday, September 21 from 7-10 a.m. in the BSA Auditorium. The fair will include a free blood pressure measurement and blood draw to test triglycerides, cholesterol and glucose. For accurate results, all participants are encouraged to fast for at least eight hours prior to having their blood drawn.

Below, you can find information on services offered at the Care Fair:

Blood pressure

According to the American Heart Association, nearly half of American adults have high blood pressure. High blood pressure is the most common cardiovascular disease and occurs when the force of blood flowing through your blood vessels (against the artery walls) is consistently too high. Managing your blood pressure can decrease your chances of developing life-threatening conditions such as heart disease and stroke.

Triglycerides

Triglycerides (also known as lipids) are found in your blood and are the most common type of fat in your body. High triglyceride levels can result in heart disease, heart attack and stroke. Eating more calories than you burn, high cholesterol levels, obesity and diabetes are common risk factors for high levels of triglycerides.

Cholesterol

Cholesterol is a type of fat that circulates in the blood. Cholesterol comes from your liver, as well as foods derived from animals that are high in saturated and trans fats. There are two types of cholesterol: LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) and HDL (good cholesterol). Too much of the bad cholesterol or not enough of the good cholesterol can cause serious health problems, leading to clogged arteries, coronary heart disease, heart attack or stroke.

Glucose

Your body uses glucose, a form of sugar from foods you consume, as energy. Glucose is a type of sugar high blood glucose levels put you at greater risk of developing insulin resistance, prediabetes and type 2 diabetes.

To register, please call (806) 212-2000.

Participants must be 18 or older. For accurate results, please do not eat or drink anything (except water) for at least eight hours prior to having blood drawn.
