Do you know your Body Mass Index? If you don’t, you should.

Understanding your Body Mass Index (BMI) and managing a healthy weight can help you lead a long and healthy life. BMI determines your level of body fat and is used as a screening tool for determining if a person is overweight or obese. Nearly 70 percent of American adults are either overweight or obese. Being obese puts you at a higher risk for serious health problems such as heart disease, stroke, sleep disorders, high blood pressure, diabetes and more.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention:

  • If your BMI is less than 18.5, it falls within the underweight range.
  • If your BMI is 18.5 to 24.9, it falls within the normal.
  • If your BMI is 25.0 to 29.9, it falls within the overweight range.
  • If your BMI is 30.0 or higher, it falls within the obese range.

For accurate BMI testing, join us at the BSA Care Fair on Saturday, April 13 from 7 to 10 a.m. in the BSA Auditorium.

The BSA Care Fair will also include a free blood pressure measurement and blood draw to test triglycerides, cholesterol and glucose. In addition to waist circumference and BMI calculations, participants will receive free CPR demonstrations, retina screenings and breakfast. For accurate results, all participants are encouraged to fast for at least eight hours prior to having their blood drawn.
