Your Heart, Our Priority

TAVR, Amarillo’s most advanced heart valve procedure, is here.

More than 2.5 million people ages 75 and older suffer from aortic stenosis, a condition caused by narrowed heart valve. These narrow valves result in the reduction or blockage of blood flow from the heart to the body. This condition can lead to heart failure or disease, the number one killer in America. BSA is proud to be the first and only facility in the Texas Panhandle to offer Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacements (TAVR) to patients, a safe and effective solution for patients suffering from aortic stenosis.  During the TAVR procedure, a catheter is inserted through a small incision in the upper leg. A fully collapsible replacement valve is transferred through the catheter and placed at the damaged valve site to take over the blood regulation process.

How it Works

During the TAVR procedure, a catheter is inserted through a small incision in the upper leg. A fully collapsible replacement valve is transferred through the catheter and placed at the damaged valve site to take over the blood regulation process.

Benefits of the TAVR Procedure

Unlike traditional heart valve replacement procedures, TAVR takes less than three hours and doesn’t require surgical opening of the chest cavity which leads to:

  • Faster recovery times
  • Improved quality of life
  • Less pain after surgery
  • Relief of symptoms
  • Shorter hospital stays
  • Smaller surgical scars

Who Qualifies

You may qualify for TAVR if you suffer from aortic stenosis. Typically, aortic stenosis is caused from:

  • Calcium deposits in the heart valves
  • Birth defects
  • Radiation therapy
  • Scar tissue in the heart valves caused by untreated strep throat

A physician referral is required. For more information, call 806-212-4668 or fill out the TAVR Inquiry form on the sidebar.
